PRISM. Postnatal Recovery Inspiration and Support for Motherhood. This is a course to prepare mother’s and their partners for the birth of your baby with a focus on support, recovery and growth as a new parent. It is delivered by the team at Imperial Maternity who include midwives, physiotherapists and doctors. Prism reflects the different perspectives that women, men, their families and their caregivers may have, which come together to support the journey as a new parent. It is only for women delivering at Imperial Maternity Hospitals. Attendance is recommended from 28 weeks. The webinar is delivered with Microsoft teams. There is an opportunity for Q&A with each event
It is run in 5 sessions over 5 weeks

Neonatal team - My new Baby – The first few hours and days – what to expect – skin to skin, jaundice, blood sugars, feeding
What to expect on the Postnatal Ward – The rooms, staff who attend, partners, support available, pain relief, bottle feeding, breastfeeding, baby checks, pain relief, sleeping advice, Contraception
Physical Recovery – Perineum recovery and wound care, haemorrhoids, bleeding, pelvic floor exercises, movement, abdominal care, nutrition, exercise (pilates, yoga)

Understanding your Baby – Bonding with your baby myths and fact, Phases of crying, the first few weeks, sleeping, Recognising the unwell baby
Strategies for Mental Wellbeing – Sleep deprivation, thought patterns, anxiety and depression, relaxation techniques, music therapy, exercise, the outdoors, Support networks
Managing Your relationship – communication styles , support, thinking traps, making time for each other, dealing with emotions, feeling safe, Parenting skills
Baby development - support from health vistors, vaccinations, where to seek help, interacting with your baby
