Event description

Description

What a year for prison education! At last year's PLA conference the Justice Secretary had just announced two reviews. One led by Dame Sally Coates into prison education for adults and one led by Charlie Taylor into the Youth Justice System. Both reviews have since come up with some radical solutions to improve learning in custody. At this year's PLA conference we will explore the changing policy environment by hearing from a range of speakers including a Governor of one of the new 'reform prisons'. We will give attendees a chance to discuss the challenges and opportunities these policy changes may bring. We will share good practice focusing on 'personalised and peer-enabled approaches'. We will celebrate the achievements of teachers, officers and peer mentors in our annual award ceremony. Finally we will hear from former learners and other experts about how we should be measuring the wide-ranging impact of prison education and how the PLA's new 'Theory of Change' evaluation framework can help. There will also be plenty of time for networking. Further details of the agenda and speakers to follow shortly. We look forward to seeing you there!
