Event description

Description

The Wellesley Club UK has organized an exclusive guided tour of the Fahrelnissa Zeid Exhibition at the Tate Modern, Bankside. The tour will be conducted by Richard Thomas.

Trained in both Paris and Istanbul, Fahrelnissa Zeid was an important figure in the Turkish avant-garde d group in the early 1940s and the École de Paris (School of Paris) in the 1950s. Her vibrant abstract paintings are a synthesis of Islamic, Byzantine, Arab and Persian influences fused with European approaches to abstraction. Many of her abstract works are monumental and demand attention.

Please join us and indulge in Zeid's obsession with line and dazzling color in this exhibition. Space is limited and priority is for Wellesley Alumnae. The event is free for alumnae and students. We ask guests to pay £10 toward our costs.

The schedule for the tour and social afterward is as follows:

8:45 am - 9:00 am: Arrival at the Tate Modern
9:00 am - 10:00 am: Private guided tour
10:30 am: Dining and networking in the Café

Details on meeting location at arrival will be sent subsequently to attendees.

We hope you'll join us on June 24th!

The Club continues to use its “CHOOSE YOUR OWN DUES” plan. (For some guidance, the range is normally between £5 and £50). All funds go directly towards the Club’s events such as Thanksgiving, communications, lectures, etc. Without your contribution through dues, we'd be unable to put on important events such as this one, or the Thanksgiving dinner. Please consider paying something toward annual dues when you register for this event. Thank you!
