Event description

Description

Founded in 1788, The Linnean Society is amongst the oldest of London’s Learned Societies and the world’s oldest active organisation devoted to natural history. Named after Carl
Linnaeus (1707-78), the Society maintains the majority of his plant and animal research collections and his personal library. It holds over 27,000 plant specimens from Sir James Smith’s (its first President) collections and owns extensive collections of portraits, prints
and drawings of naturalists, including Darwin and Hooker. The visit will include a talk and a tour of their fine rooms and the vault where their collections are held. We will finish in the Library for refreshments.

Includes tea/coffee and biscuits
