Event description

Description

Dance Manchester present our new 10 week Pro-Active dance classes for professional dancers, or those who want to work at a professional pace.

Take class with 10 local professional dance artists to improve your practise. Dance, network, have fun & improve your skills. £5.50 per class or book all 10 for a reduced price. Every Friday, starting May 5th.

Our artists are:

  • Shelley Owen whose class will explore instant composition in a live performance context. Engage in the ultimate act of consciousness & through tasks you will look at what it is to inhabit space, make compositional choices & work collectively.
  • Eithne Kane whose class is on contemporary techniques, yoga & offering some acrobatic elements. It will begin with simple exercises, building heat & energy through a series of sequences, improvisations & travelling pathways.
  • Taylor Benjamin whose class is designed to improve technique, encompass & stretch the whole body, with moments of freedom & improvisation throughout. The class will end with a dynamic, high energised, space consuming contemporary fusion sequence.
  • Julia Griffin whose class emphasizes the joy of dancing & pleasure in movement. The work comes from an anatomical perspective & looks at the articulation of the skeletal frame in order to generate momentum from bone weight, rather than through muscular tension.
  • Helen Andrew whose class delivers a progressively energetic class that explores dynamic range, shifting of weight, moving in & out of the floor. Whilst developing quirky phrases that stay playful, curious & allow us to stay connected to each other.
  • Giorgio de Carolis whose class teaches a physical class with a focus on musicality, strength, co-ordination & use of weight. Functional movement & an integration within the different body parts while dancing will be explored throughout the session.
  • Ina Colizza whose class teaches a physically choreographed & momentous class focusing on the strength & softness of the dancers’ body. A class where everybody can be free to express their own unique way to move.
  • Emily O'Shea whose class includes aspects of improvisation & choreographed phrases, the class will begin softly with focus on breathing, moving to a fast paced & energetic phrase - with a strong emphasis on moving fluidly around the space, in & out of the floor.
  • Joseph Lau whose class involves technical sequences & learning movement vocabulary that will be combined into a challenging phrase, exploring ideas of expansion & contraction as well as offering new movement pathways.
  • Bridget Fiske whose class creates time for awareness to anatomy in motion, to open ranges of movement in the body & of the body, creating an opportunity for the participant to be in dialogue with the internal & external landscape of experience & imagination.
  • Emily O'Shea whose class includes aspects of improvisation & choreographed phrases, the class will begin softly with focus on breathing, moving to a fast paced & energetic phrase - with a strong emphasis on moving fluidly around the space, in & out of the floor.
