Join expert Dr Mike Hodder at this fascinating talk about recent archaeological discoveries and environmental investigations in Sutton Park
About this event
Archaeological excavations and environmental investigations that took place last year have thrown new light on Sutton Park’s history and prehistory. The excavations revealed remains of buildings at a medieval park keeper’s lodge and showed when it was occupied, and led to different explanations of a site near the Roman road. Peat in Longmoor Valley and Keepers Valley has been dated to prehistoric times, and analysis of pollen preserved in it will show how the Park’s vegetation has changed over time and how people affected their environment in the past.
Dr Mike Hodder has been researching the archaeology of Sutton Park for 45 years. He is an Honorary Lecturer in Archaeology at the University of Birmingham and President of the Friends of Sutton Park Association. He frequently leads archaeological walks in the Park. His book “The Archaeology of Sutton Park” was recently reprinted and updated.
