Description

This course is designed specifically for healthcare practitioners, scientists, therapists and coaches whom are looking to develop their holistic management of cycling related pathologies. The content will be delivered at post grad level, therefore prior knowledge of anatomy and physiology is expected, however we do not expect you to be overfamiliar with cycling itself.

We will combine a mix of theory and practical workshops:

  • Basic anatomy and cycling biomechanics
  • Subjective and objective assessment skills
  • Common cycling injuries and their management strategies
  • Clinically reasoning bike fit
  • Current trends in cycling/bike fit
  • Case studies
  • Current literature and trends

Particular emphasis will be given to management of road cyclists, please note there is an expectation that you undertake some pre course reading and assessment in order to make the most of this seminar.


Registration: 8.30am-9.00am

Course: 9.00am - 5.30pm

Post course coffee: 5.30pm - 6.00pm

We have two very experienced physiotherapists who have combined bike fitting experience of > 10 years.

Tim is a highly experienced physiotherapist within the field of sports medicine with over 10 years experience of dealing with elite athletes. He qualified in 2003 and has worked extensively within the NHS and private practice, including work for the English Institute of Sport, British Triathlon, British Cycling, and UK Athletics. As a bike fitter Tim extended his skill set by working with John Dennis at Physiohaüs with the Retül system, and supporting Phil Burt at British Cycling. Tim is the Academic Lead for the MSc clinical biomechanics at Salford University, supporting various research projects using 3D analysis.


Bianca Broadbent BSc (Hons) MCSP ACPSEM Physiotherapist & Retul Bike Fitter at Fit Your Bike and Physiokinetic

Bianca is an experienced physiotherapist who qualified in 2009, she has worked in a variety of clinical settings but started to specialise in cycling related injuries and bike fitting in 2011. Bianca now runs Fit Your Bike which hosts bike fitting clinics in Essex and Birmingham, and manages a wide variety of cyclists and triathletes ranging from anateur to elite, with particular interest in women's specific cycling issues.

Anyone who wishes to improve their ability to manage the injured cyclist. It is suitable for those who do not have experience cycling, or dealing with cyclists, or those who have basic knowledge only.

Please note we will be sending out pre course reading in advance of the course, and also undertaking a mini assessment to gauge level of knowledge prior to attending the course. It is essential you complete this content.

Lunch will not be provided but there are several food outlets on campus which you can purchase food from.

Is lunch provided?

We will provide tea, coffee and snacks, and there are local venues for you to purchase lunch from.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

As the University of Birmingham is curently undergoing substantial development, we will be in a position to provide parking details from January 2017 onwards.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

Yes your ticket is transferable so long as you provide 4 weeks notice. This is to ensure the pre course material can be completed in time.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, we will have all of your information.


Refunds

Please note full refunds will be provided up to 8 weeks in advance of the course. a 50% refund will be given with 6 weeks notice. Unfortunately we cannot offer refunds for any notice given with 4 weeks or less prior to the course - but you may transfer your ticket to someone else.

What is the refund policy?

Please note full refunds will be given so long as you cancel with 8 weeks notice. 50% refund will be given if you give 6 weeks notice, and we regret that we cannot refund any tickets where cancellation is given with 4 weeks or less to go prior to the course.
