Process Events 002 – Manchester

When we started out all we wanted to do was go inside the agencies we admired the most but unless you were hired it was almost impossible to get access. We were fascinated by their work, culture and people but their methods were guarded and their approach was top secret.

We are committed to shattering those barriers by sharing with you the processes used by freelancers, founders and teams. We care about sharing the story of people at all stages of their because we believe in elevating all voices, irrelevant of age, ability and background.

Event Speakers

Our first event was an absolute blast so we are going to be doing it all again on Thursday 6th June. We are returning to Joshua Brooks this summer for a celebration of women in design across the North West featuring:

Niamh Cartwright (6:40pm)
Northern Design Festival Co–Founder & Lancaster University Student

Niamh is a Design Management Master’s student who escaped the hustle and bustle of south east London to study in Lancaster. She is currently curating exhibitions, exploring re-brand projects and conceptualising self–initiated design projects. Niamh is looking forward to speaking about her journey so far including the COVID-19 university experience and helping direct the Northern Design Festival.

Kohenoor Kamal (7:30pm)
Independent Designer

Kohenoor is a Bengali-British artist and designer that uses a hybrid of design and illustration. She graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Graphic Design from Leeds Arts University, formally known as Leeds College of Art. Since 2020, her practice has developed into a series of multidisciplinary skills including motion, OOH campaigns, print and digital projects as well as a key focus on working with local and small businesses. ​​​​​​​

Holly Gleave (8:20pm)
Lead Designer at Studio North

Holly is the Design Lead at award-winning agency Studio North based in Ancoats. After working in London for the first nine years of her career, both in-house and agency side, Holly made the move back to Manchester. With a focus on brand, she believes in creating work with meaning – following the Studio North process of combining science and art together to create the big idea. She will be talking about her 12 year career journey and the process behind the teams work at Studio North.

Venue
Since 1993 Joshua Brookes has been bringing the world’s biggest artists to Manchester and in 2021 the venue underwent a full refurbishment signalling a new era for the city offering a wide-range of opportunities for its diverse demographic. We will be taking over their basement space and rethinking the role of design events to provide a safe space that unites communities, shares insight and brings together regional people.
