Event description

Description

Manchester will play host to the 2018 PSM Summit on 18 April, with the event being led by the UK PSM Competence Programme Board, the Process Safety Forum and the COMAH Strategic Forum.

Following on from the launch in 2012 of the PSM Competence Programme Board’s ‘UK Strategy for Skills in Process Safety Management’, the 3rd in a triennial series of PSM Summits will see practitioners and executives from industry, stakeholder and regulatory bodies coming together highlight the best practice guidance and support available from across these forums.

With support from the Health & Safety Executive, UK PSM Competence Programme Board, the Process Safety Forum, the COMAH Strategic Forum and case studies from industry, the Summit will focus on encouraging stakeholders and businesses in all sectors with the potential for major accidents or catastrophic incidents to understand how the underlying principles of process safety can be applied to the management of hazards and risks in their business and industry sector.

------------
“The Summit outlined the importance of not taking anything for granted in PSM related issues. There were some excellent presentations which were given by Mr Ken Rivers, Mr Paul Thomas and Mrs Judith Hackitt, Chair HSE”

“A clear focus on PSM was maintained from start to finish throughout the Summit. A long list of delegates were kept engaged throughout an eventful packed day. It was very well planned and executed. Also notable was a large attendance of sectors that are not formally targeted in the original strategy – e.g. power and energy. Be prepared for an even larger engagement over the next two years. I would like to see a 2 day event of the Summit! I look forward to the next one”

“High calibre speakers underpinned the importance of the conference. There is no magic bullet initiative – we will improve by sharing and learning. We already do and need to continue to work hard at doing the right thing, we still need to do more. It was very interesting to hear the thoughts that other businesses had on PSM and examples of what had been done were very useful. It is critical to learn from other's mistakes, we employ people for their thinking: therefore converse with them to help improve safety”
