Seed Collecting, Processing, and Storing: Theory and Practice Course with Dr Tim Peters

Start time 10.00am- 11.30am

Overview of session

This course is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in the principles and practical techniques of seed handling—from ethical and effective collection methods to processing for viability and long-term storage.

Whether you're working in conservation, research, or community gardening, you'll gain hands-on experience and scientific insight into seed biology, dormancy, germination, and storage protocols. Together, we'll explore both traditional and modern approaches to ensure seeds are preserved and ready for future use.

In order to tackle the climate crisis, we support saving local heritage tree seeds and propagation for local projects in Wales. This workshop is part of a training program to enable Welsh communities to register tree seed clusters, collect tree seeds from healthy trees and set up their own tree nurseries to provide saplings for local tree planting projects.

This event has been made possible with thanks to Coed Cadw, the Woodland Trust in Wales, with support from Players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

Sgwrs Iechyd Planhigion ar gyfer Meithrinfeydd Coed Cymunedol

Amser dechrau 10.00am- 11.30am

Trosolwg o'r sesiwn

Ar 30ain Medi am 10.00am Ar-lein cynhelir y Cwrs Damcaniaeth ac Ymarfer – Casglu, Prosesu a Storio Hadau gyda Dr Tim Peters

Nod y cwrs hwn yw rhoi sylfaen gynhwysfawr ar egwyddorion a thechnegau ymarferol trin hadau – o ddulliau casglu moesegol ac effeithiol i brosesu i sicrhau hyfywedd a storio hirdymor.

P’un a ydych yn gweithio ym maes cadwraeth, ymchwil neu arddio cymunedol, byddwch yn cael profiad ymarferol a mewnwelediad gwyddonol i fioleg, cysgadrwydd, eginiadau a phrotocolau storio hadau. Gyda’n gilydd, byddwn yn ymchwilio i ddulliau traddodiadol a modern o sicrhau bod hadau’n cael eu diogelu ac yn barod i’w defnyddio i’r dyfodol.

Er mwyn mynd i'r afael â’r argyfwng hinsawdd, rydym yn cefnogi achub hadau coed treftadaeth lleol a’u lluosogi ar gyfer prosiectau lleol yng Nghymru. Mae’r gweithdy hwn yn rhan o raglen hyfforddiant i alluogi cymunedau yng Nghymru i gofrestru clystyrau hadau coed, casglu hadau coed o goed iach a sefydlu eu planhigfeydd coed eu hunain i ddarparu glasbrennau ar gyfer prosiectau plannu coed lleol.

Diolch i Coed Cadw, y Woodland Trust yng Nghymru, gyda chefnogaeth Loteri Cod Post y Bobl, am wneud y digwyddiad hwn yn bosibl.
