Event description

Description

Paul Jaboulet Aine is one of the most well known names of the Rhone Valley and remains one of the region's most important estates. The wines have undergone a quality change in recent years, from the moderately priced Paralelle 45 range through to their highly prized La Chapelle. Antoine Jaboulet began growing vines on the hillsides of Hermitage in 1834, although it was his son Paul who gave his name to the business. Since January 2006, Jaboulet has been owned and run by the Frey family (the owners of Ch. La Lagune in Bordeaux), whose investment has returned the wines to top form. From the 2010 vintage, a brand new cellar with gravity fed system allows Jaboulet to handle their fruit with the maximum care. Eldest daughter, Caroline Frey is responsible for making the wine as well as managing the 100 hectares of vines, with winemaker Jacques Desvernois and consultant Denis Dubourdieu working alongside Caroline. Syrah is the sole red variety grown by Jaboulet in the Northern Rhone, where the wide diversity of terroirs and micro-climates produce wines with well-defined personalities. The average age of the vines is forty years, with the oldest nearly eighty years old. Yields are very low and all viticulture and harvesting is carried out by hand.

Charlotte will be talking us through five wines from this iconic Rhone producer.

Tickets are £12.50, includes tasting of five wines and light snacks.
