Event description

Description

Professor Simon Conway Morris is Professor of Evolutionary Palaeobiology in the Department of Earth Sciences at Cambridge having held the Chair of Evolutionary Palaeobiology since 1995.

He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society at age 39 and he is an internationally renowned authority on evolutionary convergence.

He is also a Christian.

Professor Conway Morris is a strong and public advocate that evolution is compatible with belief in the existence of God. Active in the public understanding of science, he has written articles on evolution and Christian belief and has broadcast extensively on radio and television, including the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures.

Conway Morris will give an hour's lecture on what evolution is, the common responses to evolution and the notion of God, and why he is convinced that evolution and the fine-tuning found in Biology means that there is no contradiction between being a credible scientist and a person of faith. There will be time for Q&A towards the end of lecture and after the lecture refreshments will be provided for those that wish to carry on the conversation.
