Event description
This course prepares you to move from personal practice to giving Reiki treatments to the public, following the CNHC core curriculum.

About this Event

* Please note the start of this course has been postponed due to the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic*

Usui Shiki Ryoho First and Second Degree Reiki courses are designed to offer you a personal practice that can bring enhanced quality of life to you and your family and friends. They are not designed to prepare you for offering Reiki treatments to the public. For this more preparation is needed. This course will support you on the next steps towards offering Reiki to people not known to you – the public. This course follows the standards set out in the National Occupational Standards for Reiki and the CNHC core curriculum, so that it will also prepare you for registration on the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council Reiki Register.

Course overview

Taking place over three weekends, this course covers the foundation of knowledge and understanding that Reiki practitioners need to become confident and competent practitioners working with the public. It is a preparation for offering Reiki treatments in a wide range of professional and clinical settings outside the home, such as GP surgeries, hospitals, hospices as well as private practice in complementary health clinics.  You are expected to attend all three weekends to complete the course.

Course content includes

* Exploring what it means to be a professional Reiki practitioner and the preparation that is necessary * The importance of self care through regular self treatment * Review the Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki treatment practice and how it applies to public treatments, including a review of the standard Usui Shiki Ryoho treatment form, seated treatment and additional hand positions * How to prepare and manage your treatment space * How to deal with clients appropriately * What is expected of you as a professional * Basic anatomy and physiology * The flow of money including setting fees * Legal requirements * How to let people know what you are offering (marketing) * Next steps

Reported benefits from attending this course include

"An excellent course which would be beneficial for anyone considering giving reiki to the general public or who just wants to give a more professional treatment to family and friends.  The course covers the essential aspects of becoming a professional reiki practitioner and highlights some of the pitfalls to avoid.  As well as benefitting from Kate's extensive experience and knowledge, course members are able to discuss and learn from each others experiences and problems.  The course also provides an opportunity to revise and refresh some of the basic elements of giving a reiki treatment."

"I knew this course was definitely for me when I realised I was a public practitioner not a 'professional' one"

"It was good to go over the importance and benefits of self treatment in non-practitioner/practitioner scenarios"

"exploring, expanding on different considerations, record keeping etc benefiting from Kate's experience"

"a feeling of responsibility, stimulating, challenging"

"I really enjoyed the anatomy and physiology session, which was funny, as I have an aversion to it, it's like another language, however, the session was fun, and we learnt by colouring in, labelling and using our previous knowledge. I've been in other A & P courses for yoga and massage but not much has ever stayed in my brain! I was unexpectedly surprised to find that session one of the best ones as linked reiki to very specific areas of the body and how we can treat that area."

"Surprisingly a much deeper subject than just "what to charge or not to charge". I learnt a discovered attitudes to money I hadn't acknowledged."

"completely informative - valuable, important information"

"I learnt so much from this module. Up until now I hadn't realised how many ways I could let people know I am a Reiki practitioner."

Who should attend

This course is for second Reiki degree students who wish to prepare for or improve their practice of giving Reiki treatments to the public in professional settings. This does not necessarily mean as paid work - it could also be as a volunteer, for example in a hospice.  This course is taught by a master of Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki, so please be aware that hand positions, use of symbols etc will be according to the Usui Shiki Ryoho form of teaching which you will be asked to follow for this course as a way of holding professional Reiki practice. Please contact me if you would like to know more about what this could mean for you.

Course leader

This course is designed and led by Kate Jones, Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki master who has been treating members of the public since 1990.  She has been involved in developing the standards for Reiki practitioners giving treatments to the public on which this course is based. Through her involvement with The Reiki Association she participated in developing the first National Occupational Standards for Reiki treatments with Skills for Health.  Her attendance at several public Reiki practice conferences in the USA, Australia and the UK in the early 2000s informed this work.  She has represented the Reiki Association and Reiki Alliance on Reiki Council, the lead body for Reiki practice in the UK and through this took part in the revision of the NOS.  She serves on the Reiki Profession Specific Board of the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council and continues to attend Reiki Council meetings.

Kate has a passion for seeing Reiki available to more people to help them through difficult times and to achieve good health.  Having reversed her own type 2 diabetes and remained in remission since 2014 she is well aware of how effective Reiki can be.  She notes that the results of Reiki treatment are often surprising to doctors and hopes to see this effect more widely available through well prepared, confident and competent Reiki practitioners.
