S1 What is expected of disciplined researchers? - Professor Adrian Holliday - Tuesday 20th November 2018, 11am-12.30pm

This workshop provides an introduction to research for those just starting out. It offers the opportunity to discuss some of the key issues regarding the personal qualities needed to carry out your academic research effectively.


S2 The Periodic Reviews for Research Students - Professor Adrian Holliday - Tuesday 12th February 2019, 11am-12.30pm

In preparation for your first institutional review this workshop provides research students with the opportunity to ask questions to other research students who have successfully undergone the review process in previous years. A representative of the Graduate School will also be available to address any concerns you have with regard to the review.


S3 Preparing for the Viva - Professor Adrian Holliday - Tuesday 28th May 2019, 11am-12.30pm

For many research students the viva is surrounded by a degree of mystery and uncertainty. This workshop aims to better define and aid familiarity with the viva process, reflecting on possible expectations and potential preparatory strategies.

*For final year students.


S4 Managing your supervisor - Dr Soeren Keil - Tuesday 30th October, 11am-12.30pm

This workshop offers research students some practical advice on how to effectively manage their research supervisors or principal investigator. We will discuss issues such as mutual expectations, preparing for and managing meetings, and addressing conflicts, challenges and breakdowns in communication.


S5 Time Management - Dr Harriet Kersey, Tuesday 13th November, 1pm-2.30pm

In this session we will discuss how to prioritise and effectively manage your time as a research student with some practical advice
