The Annual General Meeting of the Professional Yachting Association
In the 25 years that the PYA has been in existence, the association has grown from a small group of yacht captains, working as volunteers, to a large association which has a powerful voice with administrations and organisations such as the MCA, RYA, IHO and other industry players such as MYBA, SYBASS and IYC. The aim since inception has been to represent the interests of members and to promote professional practice and CPD amongst all yachting captains and crew. The successful discussions to amend the Paris MoU to be more favourable for yachting and the creation of the PYA GUEST programme for interior crew are testaments to these aims.
The original structure of the PYA served its purpose 25 years ago but is now outdated and needs to move to another more efficient level with improved decision making and management.
Earlier this year the PYA council commissioned an independant review of its structure, internal management and procedures. This review is presently under consideration by the PYA Council and a proposal for the complete modernisation of the PYA will be put to the membership at the forthcoming AGM. Further information concerning this proposal will be sent to you before the AGM to allow you to consider it.
It is important for all members to take this opportunity to have their say in these big changes which will pave the way for a stronger and more effective PYA.
The PYA AGM will be held at 18.00 hrs on Thursday 1st December at the Salle du 8 mai, Antibes. Please register to confirm your attendance.
The AGM is likely to last around 1.5 hours and will be followed by drinks and nibbles for those who are able to stay.
