Description

'From Idealism to Reality': Precision Medicine

The care of major trauma patients has evolved hugely in last 20 years. We will discuss how our knowledge in the field of trauma care has changed during this time frame. We will discuss the the start of Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine, the development of Major Trauma Centres and current 'state of the art’ treatments and interventions that are available today and some coming in the not too distant future. In his lecture, Professor Anil Hormis will provide insights from personal experiences and research to show that the modern day management of victims of major trauma is not a one size fits all strategy but true ‘Precision Medicine’.

Professor Anil Hormis is a Consultant in Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine at Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. He has trained in Anaesthesia & Critical Care Medicine in Sheffield and London. In 2007 he undertook a Fellowship in Clinical Simulation and Medical Education at the Montagu Clinical Simulation Centre for one year. He has been a flight physician with the Yorkshire Air Ambulance since 2007 and in 2009 undertook fellowship training in Pre-Hospital Medicine and Major Trauma with the London Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (London HEMS) based at the Royal London Hospital.

Welcome refreshments will be served at 18:00 outside of the lecture theatre. The lecture will begin at 18:30 prompt followed by wine and canapés.
