Professor Catherine Barnard: "Visas, Supply Chains and Brexit" Presented by NES4EU (Zoom) Thursday 3rd February at 19.15 for 19.30-21.00
About this event
“Is Brexit reshaping the UK constitution, little by little, before our very eyes?” So asks Professor Catherine Barnard.
Catherine Barnard MA (Cantab), LLM (EUI), PhD (Cantab) is Professor in European Union Law and Employment Law at the University of Cambridge, and senior tutor and fellow of Trinity College. She specialises in EU law and employment law. She has advised the government on various Europe-related subjects and has worked extensively with the EU.
She could be described as the academic’s academic; such is her stature; she is one of the most authoritative voices in a sea of misinformation.
She has been active working with Full Fact, a non-partisan charity, fact checking claims about the EU. She has been working on the potential models for the UK’s future relationship with the EU, focusing in particular on free movement of persons.
Professor Barnard is a Deputy Director at UK in a Changing Europe https://ukandeu.ac.uk/about-us/
Our speaker has the knack of explaining complex subjects clearly, which you can see in her articles on "Retained EU Law and Lord Frost", and "Homelessness, Covid-19 and Settled Status":

"Does under-scrutinised EU law risk being replaced by under-scrutinised UK law?" Catherine deals with these subjects in a way that is even understandable to non-experts.
What happens to EU nationals who did not gain Settled Status?
She has made a point of focussing her know-how on the plight of uncounted and undocumented EU nationals in the UK. There are many who have been unsuccessful in seeking employment and who have no recourse to public funds, and have failed to gain settled status. Following Brexit, they are without legal status in the UK, with considerable delays and confusion about what they could do. Rough sleepers face a higher likelihood of dying prematurely – the average age at death for the homeless is 44 for men, and 42 for women.
