Event description

Do you work with post-16 students, offering advice and guidance about higher education? If you do, join our Progress and Progression - Information, Advice, and Guidance conference, designed specifically for teachers and advisors of post-16 students, at Leeds Trinity University on Friday 9 March 2018.

We know that the higher education landscape is complex and changes regularly. So this event is designed to offer up-to-date, clear information to support your students through their journey to higher education, while exploring the key issues affecting post-16 progression.

Engaging with professionals in the sector, you will explore how the current political landscape is impacting on your students. Our keynote speaker Jonny Mitchell, Principal of the Co-operative Academy and made famous by the Educating Yorkshire TV series, will be sharing first-hand experience of what it is like to lead a school with a diverse cohort, in a diverse community.

You'll also be able to choose from a range of workshops which will support your professional development and provide the opportunity to network with colleagues.

The aim of this workshop is to deliver key student finance messages, and help teachers and advisers understand and consider the wider issues around funding and budgeting. All aspects of student finance, including tuition fees, loans, and repayments, will be covered.

  • Reaching the Hard to Reach: Championing Widening Participation, a Case Study from Leeds Trinity

In this workshop we first explore what ‘hard to reach’ means and in turn how to identify ‘hard to reach’ groups of students. We share how we champion our work with students who have protected characteristics, and best practice in this field.

  • Time to speak out for inclusion
