Progression and Assessment in Key Stage 2 MFL

Primary schools are now expected to teach Languages to all classes in Key Stage 2 and to ensure that teaching focuses on substantial progress in one language. To ensure the quality of language learning in the primary school, clear systems of assessment need to be in place. This course offers practical solutions to the assessment of language skills so that teachers can assess accurately and monitor progress effectively within the context of their school.

Aims and Content

Delegates will:

  • Understand what substantial progress looks like and what language learning skills pupils should be developing;
  • Consider why and how we assess Languages;
  • Discover practical assessment activities for Languages;
  • Gain ideas for assessing Languages across the curriculum;
  • Design effective assessment structures that clearly inform planning.

Suitable for Head teachers, senior leaders, subject leaders, class teachers and teaching assistants
