One of the world’s most secretive yet influential organisations is the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). At its core stands its founder, Dr Keshav Hedgewar, who began the movement in 1925. As the RSS marks its centenary in October 2025, its influence on the ruling BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unmistakable. To understand the effect this is having on modern India, her values and aspirations, join author Sachin Nandha, whose Penguin biography and new paper on Hedgewar’s Progressive Conservatism illuminate this legacy. For the UK, grasping these currents is essential: India is not only a key economic partner, but also a society at the heart of global debates on culture, democracy, and identity.

Sachin Nandha is a philosopher, thought leader, and seasoned strategist with a successful career in private equity. Now a trusted advisor to boards, founders, and organizations, he is valued for his ability to distill meta-trends and bridge global perspectives with actionable insights. Deeply connected to his Indian heritage, Sachin’s transformative experiences exploring India’s history and philosophy shape his work, notably his debut book, Hedgewar: A Definitive Biography. He combines a profound understanding of Indian traditions with Western liberal values, creating a unique perspective that resonates across cultures.

Simon Roberts is a business anthropologist and pioneer in applying ethnography to corporate research, design, and innovation. He founded Stripe Partners, the UK’s first dedicated ethnographic research company, and serves as Board President of EPIC. With over 35 years of experience studying India, Simon brings a deep, enduring interest in the country's history and contemporary transformations.
