PROJECT 58:7 Help The Homeless

Come join us at St Mark's Church for a day of training for volunteers to support churches overnight provision. We're partnering with the local charity PATH to offer winter provision for rough sleepers because it combines practical support, community responsibility, and compassion into a meaningful initiative. Here's how this plan and support helps:

1. Meeting an urgent seasonal need

  • Winter poses serious health risks to people sleeping rough — cold, damp conditions can lead to hypothermia, respiratory illness, and even death.
  • Providing shelter. warmth and essential supplies directly reduces these risks.

2. Leveraging PATH’s expertise

  • PATH already has experience, trust, and networks within the homeless community.
  • They know how to engage with rough sleepers in a respectful and non-judgmental way.
  • Partnering means resources are targeted efficiently rather than duplicating efforts.

3. Strengthening community impact

  • Bringing together PATH, local churches, and community volunteers demonstrates a united effort to tackle homelessness in Plymouth.
  • Using well-known central churches means the shelter is accessible, familiar, and welcoming to those in need.

4. Creating long-term pathways

  • While the focus is immediate winter safety, working with PATH can connect individuals to longer-term services — housing support, mental health care, employment advice — breaking the cycle of homelessness.
