Time: 18:00 reception for 18:20 start

Venue: IStructE HQ, Main Auditorium

Synopsis

100 Bishopsgate is Brookfield Office Properties’ flagship mixed-use tower development in the City of London’s tall buildings cluster. The speaker will discuss the following in this talk:

  • how Robert Bird Group designed the permanent works around specific construction methodology;

  • the top-down construction of the 12m basement under a 40 storey tower and the ‘jump-start’ core methodology;

  • solutions to the special axial shortening design considerations that the building’s geometry demands;

  • designing the stability system to respond to torsion effects arising from raking columns;

  • the approach to design against disproportionate collapse.

Speaker: Russell Whitehead, MEng CEng MIStructE | Director at Robert Bird Group

Russell is a Director at Robert Bird Group in London, leading teams of structural, civil and geotechnical engineers in the delivery of mixed-use, commercial, residential and retail projects. Russell is a structural engineer with particular experience in the design and delivery of deep basements and buildings in London, typically dealing with complex ground constraints, top-down methodology, and underground third party assets. He has been involved in the 100 Bishopsgate project since 2010, seeing the project through from scheme design to construction.
