Projective Identification in Clinical Practice - one-day workshop
Overview
Projective Identification in Clinical Practice: A Six-Stage Relational Methodology
Join this one-day online CPD training to explore projective identification as a two-person, relational process and learn about a practical six-stage framework for working with it in clinical practice. Drawing on Alistair Berlin’s published paper Ego States and Projective Identification: A Six-Stage Relational Methodology (Transactional Analysis Journal, 2022), the day offers clear, structured guidance for recognising, navigating, and resolving projective identification within the therapeutic relationship.
Who Should Attend
The psychotherapy CPD workshop is suitable for practitioners from all therapeutic modalities - not just Transactional Analysis. Although the framework originates from a TA context, the material is presented in a way that is accessible and clinically relevant across theoretical orientations. The day will include a concise recap of ego states, framed in the most simple and practical terms for optimising understanding of the projective identification process.
Learning Objectives
Projective identification is often misunderstood or framed in overly complex ways that obscure its real-world application. Gaining clarity about this process early in training can be transformative, while for advanced practitioners it offers a way to crystallise and deepen understanding of relational dynamics in practice.
Participants will learn to track the sequence of projective identification as it unfolds between therapist and client, deepen awareness of their own countertransference responses, and practise interventions that transform enactments into therapeutic movement.
Course Delivery: Live online on Zoom. (Session will not be recorded)
Pre-Course Requirements: Suitable for counselling and psychotherapy practitioners and trainees from all therapeutic modalities.
Recognition: A Link Centre Certificate will be presented.
Maximum number of participants: 40
