For our next talk, Le Wagon is pleased to welcome Sabiha Shaik, for the project Elly - a project that promotes digital inclusivity and accessibility to make the web more accessible for people with disabilities. She previously worked as a Junior Developer at Chalhoub Group and was a Gold Microsoft Learn Student Ambassador!

Sabiha is a 2020 CS Graduate and was a gold Microsoft Learn Student Ambassador till March 2021. She previously worked as a Junior Developer at Chalhoub Group, UAE, the largest retail operator and the leading partner for luxury across the Middle East since 1955. While at Chalhoub Group, she was involved in developing the group’s internal learning experience platform that helps train employees of the group.

Sabiha has experience in web development technologies such as PHP, JavaScript, HTML and CSS and Android development with Kotlin and Android Studio. Within tech, she is passionate about accessibility, digital privacy, XR space and building solutions to solve issues in this space.

At the end of her undergraduate studies, Sabiha also took part in a Hackathon that led to the Beta Release of her team project Elly! She will be continuing her education with a Master’s in Computer Science and Engineering where she plans to focus on the above mentioned areas.

ABOUT ELLY

Elly is a Chrome extension that allows its users to generate alternative captions without leaving their browser. Alt captions are important to ensure media content is readable for people with disabilities. This project offers a good solution to promote accessibility & inclusivity using technology. It is now in its beta version adapted to twitter and the team is working on launching new features and functionalities.
