Description

Free 'Digital Citizenship' Training Workshop for Secondary Pupils & Teachers: Helping Schools Promote Digital Competence, Digital Citizenship and Wellbeing

‘Cardiff Against Bullying’, ‘Cardiff Schools ICT & E- Learning Service’ and 'WISE KIDS' are inviting up to 2 teachers and 4 pupils (2 from Year 7 and 2 from year 8) from secondary schools in Cardiff to take part in a free training and development day on the 30th of Jan 2018. It will focus on teachers and pupils working together to improve Digital Citizenship and Digital Competence in their schools.

Sangeet Bhullar (founder of WISE KIDS) will be delivering the workshop with support from Nicola Bartlett from Cardiff Against Bullying and Richard Clement from Cardiff Schools ICT and E-learning Service.

*Workshop Programme (9.15am to 2.45pm)

The workshop will have the themes of Promoting Digital Citizenship, Digital Competence and Digital Wellbeing, and aims to help schools by working with young people to develop their knowledge, understanding, and digital competence, to use online technologies effectively, kindly and responsibly. The workshop will also help pupils reflect on their roles in peer cultures, and how best they can be upstanders, and model empathy, kindness and self-reflection online and offline.

The workshop will be interactive in format with presentations, film clips, group work and reflection tasks. It will also feature live blogging, so that reflections can be captured online and teachers can gain practical insights into how such tools can be used for reflective practice.

As part of the workshop, pupils will be tasked with developing ideas for promoting positive, kind, responsible use of online technologies in their schools; also developing ideas for how their school can create and support a culture of digital citizenship and wellbeing. Teachers from each school will support their pupils in this task. The pupils will capture these ideas as draft plans (using a range of text, audio and video) to discuss with the school leadership team when they return to school.

All attendees will also gain access to a specially created Google site with links to further resources.

*Young people’s participation and permission

As part of the training workshop, the pupils from your school will be sharing ideas, taking photographs and recording audio and videos. In line with our aim of teaching responsible, safe and positive Internet use, WISE KIDS requires that schools seek parental permission for each child attending the workshops to be able to be able to participate in this programme, and for schools, 'WISE KIDS', 'Cardiff Against Bullying' and Cardiff Schools' ICT & E- Learning Service' to be able to share the media the pupils produce (photos, audio and video clips) on our respective websites and related blog and social media channels, to raise awareness of this programme, as well as to promote innovative, positive and safe Internet use.
