Workshop 2

Promoting employability through mobility programmes for HEIs  in the UK

Who should participate in the workshop?
Erasmus Coordinators, International Office staff, Careers Service staff, Placement Coordinators, Funding Officers, Student Services staff and student union staff/representatives.

What are the aims of the workshop?
The aim of the workshop is to reinforce the importance of mobility and employability for institutions, staff and students in the context of the current higher educational landscape(s) in the four jurisdictions of the United Kingdom. This event will bring together a range of experts and practitioners to share experience and effective practice and to distil insights into how to embed mobility and employability into the strategy, priorities and processes of higher education institutions. The seminar will also offer information on new opportunities to support wider student mobility and practical advice on how these may be used to widen access to mobility and contribute to enhancing the employability of participants.

Who will lead the workshop?
The workshops will benefit from the in-depth experience of the UK EHEA Experts who have been involved with evaluating applications for Erasmus+ funding and others who have experience in the planning and development of successful applications and their subsequent management.

What are the main themes of the workshop?
The sessions on making effective use of funding for mobility will cover the following themes:

  • Funding for mobility beyond Erasmus+ Key Action 1 Programme countries
  • Opportunities for mobility within capacity-building projects
  • Other sources of potential funding for mobility opportunities

There will, also be breakout sessions on promoting mobility, managing mobility and alternative forms of mobility.

The sessions on employability will address the following themes:

  • Monitoring the impact of mobility on employability
  • Articulating the value of mobility and recording achievement using EHEA tools
  • Erasmus+ traineeships: connecting and communicating with industry

There will also be a question and answer session with an Expert panel comprising representatives from HEIs, employers, students, AGCAS, NCUB and others: it will consider issues emerging from the workshop sessions and others including: What constitutes employability? What do industry and businesses need and how does this match up with what mobile students acquire?
