On January 26th 2017, PRONI will mark the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and Holocaust Memorial Day by hosting an interview with Belfast man, Teddy Dixon who participated in the liberation of Dachau. Teddy will be interviewed by Film-maker and Director, Dermot Lavery who will also talk about the making of the documentary, ‘From Belfast to Dachau’.
There will also be an opportunity to view a public showing of ‘From Belfast to Dachau’ which describes the journey of Teddy Dixon who was born in New York in 1920, moved to his parent’s native city of Belfast in 1925 and who was drafted into the US Army in 1944 whilst serving as an ARP warden and working in the Ormeau bakeries. Teddy’s time in the US army saw him serving in the 42nd Infantry Division and whilst advancing on Munich he uncovered the horrors of the concentration camp at Dachau.
