Description

The Balfour Declaration 1917 - Why did they do it?

To mark the centenary of the Balfour Declaration, Dr Pat Walsh will deliver a presentation entitled The Balfour Declaration 1917 - Why did they do it? The talk will take place on Thursday 9 November 2017 at 1pm.

The Balfour Declaration was a British government public statement made during World War I, to announce their support for the establishment of a "national home" for the Jewish people in Palestine, then part of the Ottoman Empire. This was a highly important milestone in what would lead to the creation of the present day state of Israel and subsequent long lasting consequences. This presentation will explore how and why the British government came to this decision.
