Event description

Description

To mark the publication of The Valley Press Anthology of Prose Poetry, edited by Anne Caldwell and Oz Hardwick, there will be a one-day symposium at Leeds Trinity University on Saturday 13th July 2019.

The prose poem is currently experiencing a surge in popularity, with the recent publication of The Penguin Book of the Prose Poem: From Baudelaire to Anne Carson, ed. Jeremy Noel-Tod (Penguin, 2018) and British Prose Poetry: The Poems Without Lines (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018) being just the most prominent demonstrations of the form’s rude health. Caldwell and Hardwick’s anthology demonstrates the rich variety of prose poems currently being written in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Our keynote speakers, Cassandra Atherton and Paul Hetherington, are currently writing Prose Poetry: An Introduction for the Princeton Press.

The symposium will consist of talks, panels, the official launch of The Valley Press Anthology of Prose Poetry, and an optional workshop. Further details may be found below. We welcome non-traditional modes of presentation and welcome panel proposals.

There is an alternative workshop option if you do not wish to attend the symposium. The workshop will be run by Anne Caldwell and will involve exploring how to edit prose poems, what makes a good prose poem and different approaches to the form.

It is also possible to just come to the book launch and lunch. For timings please visit https://prose-poetry.uk/events
