About this Event

Join us for an evening of prose readings from LGBTQ writers including, headlined by renowned LGBTQ crime writer Paul Burston.

Paul Burston is the author of six novels including the WH Smith bestseller ‘The Black Path’ and his new psychological thriller, ‘The Closer I Get’ (pub date July 11, 2019)

He has also edited two short story collections and published several non-fiction titles.

In his 20s he was an activist with ACT-UP London and worked for the anti-violence project GALOP before becoming a journalist.

Since 1988, his writing has appeared in various newspapers and magazines including The Sunday Times, The Guardian and Time Out. He has also written and presented documentaries for Channel 4.

He is the curator and host of award-winning literary salon Polari at London’s Southbank Centre, and the founder of The Polari First Book Prize for new LGBT+ writing.

He has led masterclasses for The Guardian and regularly runs writing workshops as part of Polari's national touring events, funded by Arts Council England.

In 2016, Paul was featured in the British Council's Global List, celebrating '33 visionary people who are promoting freedom, equality and LGBT rights around the world.'

He is one of the subjects of Riot Act, a verbatim play by Alexis Gregory, published by Oberon Books and celebrating three men's contribution to the history of gay activism.

Born in York and raised in South Wales, Paul now divides his time between London and Hastings.
