Event description

Description

Are you a parent? Do you work with children and young adults? Do you feel you are equipped with the necessary skills to spot those most vulnerable children and young people to protect them from exploitation? Well the abusers are a step ahead of most of us in being able to identify who they can target.

This event aims to educate us in two areas of signficant and sadly, somewhat topical, concern for our young, Radicalisation and Sexual Exploitation.

This event aims to explore the tactics predators use to identify those who they can brain wash to carry out horrific terrorist attacks. Peter Thompson and Sharon Ross are both retired Northumbria Police Officers who have a wealth of policing experience. Peter had been instrumental in the initial delivery of the Prevent agenda since 2008, and during their time working together in the department, they delivered awareness training to over 10,000 frontline staff from a number of statutory partners. Sharon became the force 'Channel Police Practitioner' and was seconded to the North East Counter Terrorism Unit.

The talks could cover a wide range of issues, including; ...

Prevent Duty Guidance for NHS/Local Authority Safeguarding requirements,

The local threats for our region, including far right extremism

Vulnerabilities linked to extremism

The radicalisation process and how people may get caught up in it

What to look out for, and issues that could cause you concern

When to report an issue and how to do so

Case studies

Issues with social media/internet

The Channel process (multi agency approach to tackling radicalisation and extremism)

Rachel and Chloe are both Survivours of the Rotherham sexual exploitation case, a similar case in Rochdale has been recently dramatised on TV. They will talk through some of the horrific experiences they faced in order to improve the understanding by all professionals on issues of grooming and abuse. Abuse which started in childhood and continued into adulthood. Rachel has only recnetly been able to talk about her abuse adn Chloe has only recently recognised here experiences as being abuse, both are still fighting for justice. Topics covvered include their experiences of; grooming, abuse, mental adn physical health issues, addiction, education, Policing, soical care adn the courts.
