Event description

Description

Wandsworth Council are making huge changes to the way the borough supports children diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorder and other social and communication needs.

These include:
-cutting the number of specialist teachers in the Wandsworth advisory services from 9 to 3
-making up to 13 experienced SEND professionals redundant

This is very likely to:
-reduce the support available to SEND children and their families
-reduce the support class teachers are given in helping to meet the needs of SEND children in mainstream schools

The number of children being diagnosed with ASD has more than doubled in recent years. Services like these should be expanding! Instead per pupil funding is falling. This leads to long waiting lists for a diagnosis and compromises the provision that SEND pupils receive.

On 21st March we will be joined by Battersea MP Marsha de Cordova as well as local teachers and parents. Join us to discuss the impact of these cuts locally and to put pressure on the council to ensure the organisation of the services does not leave SEND pupils and families without the support they need.
