Event description

Description

This event is free to attend and is for individuals responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the people within their organisation and we’ll be asking, “How are you tackling the issues of bullying and harassment in the workplace?

According to a TUC survey a third of people experience bullying in the workplace, with women most likely to be victims. The chances are we’ve all seen or experienced it at least once in our working lives, from the extreme of sexual harassment, to the subtle problematic language that sometimes gets labelled as ‘banter’ rather than bullying. But all of these negative behaviours can lead to a toxic work environment and impact on productivity.

Other surveys tell us that under-reporting of incidents is a huge problem, so it’s likely to be much more than 1 in 3 people who experience incidents at work.

As employers, we need to encourage an open environment where people feel confident reporting incidents at work. It can only benefit everyone when individuals can get the support they need, and the organisation can understand its culture and get ahead of situations before they become high-profile, reputation-damaging, whistleblowing issues.

Report + Support is a secure online platform which gives a voice to those who have experienced or witnessed any kind of harassment or abuse. Culture Shift, the creators of the system, will be sharing their insight from how UK universities have used it to respond to incidents, as well as monitor and tackle any worrying cultural trends. We’ll cover how having a secure solution and process in place can help you mitigate risks to your reputation, more importantly, ensure the safety and happiness of your team.

What we’ll cover:

  • What happens when you get it wrong. Looking at organisations that have faced backlash in the #MeToo era and how they could have avoided it.
  • Banter vs bullying. What’s the difference and where do you draw the line?
  • Why do women tend to be targeted and how can we, as business leaders, ensure a better future for our female colleagues?
  • Reporting. How you can use anonymous data and trend analysis to understand your culture.
  • GDPR. Which data you can and can’t keep.
