About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Our new project Protection Through Connection: Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage in Scotland aims to raise the profile of Scotland’s living traditions by building stronger relationships between cultural and heritage organisations and communities that maintain Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH).

This project is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and is being delivered in partnership by the ICH Partnership in Scotland, which includes Historic Environment Scotland (HES), Traditional Arts & Culture Scotland (TRACS), and Museums Galleries Scotland.

We are hoping to work with five cultural 'tradition bearers' across Scotland - these might be traditional craftspeople preserving a basket weaving tradition, or the organisers of calendar customs, such as Common Ridings, the Burning of the Clavie or Burryman events, storytellers, or traditional musicians, or those who preserve agricultural lore or knowledge of nature - and to help them work with a local heritage organisation (museum, community centre, library/archive) to help raise the visibility of their heritage. The cultural traditions must be currently practiced, as opposed to historic. The five projects are supported by £10,000 of funding per project.

This event is an opportunity to come along and learn more about intangible cultural heritage and how your organisation might benefit from this fund.

This meeting will be hosted on Zoom. Live captions will be available.
