Overview

Protector Parts in Therapy: Skills to Transform Resistance and Shame Workshop with Kate Williams

We all have parts within us that configure to help us through life: to connect, belong and to have purpose.

With her wealth of knowledge and experience of parts work theories, Kate will explore with the group what protector parts are and how & why they develop. Kate will share insight into the wounds these protector parts are protecting, and how there are often a group of parts that configure to keep the status quo.

The focus of the workshop will explore how protector parts show up in the therapy room as resistance and often shame which can feel like sabotage... It can be tempting as a therapist to want these parts of the client to change as if they are getting in the way of the work...but what if this is the work! Kate will share with you skills and techniques to work with these, often, very frightened parts, so they can be included in the work rather than being pushed away.
