Event description
Consider yourself invited to a friendly and informal meetup for LGBTQ freelancers, self-employed and small business owners.

About this event

Over a pint or two we’ll discuss the challenges and triumphs and tips and tricks around communicating our LGBTQ identity to clients and suppliers, as well as how we can send positive messages about diversity and inclusion. We're hosting an open discussion and encourage you to bring your questions, frustrations, thoughts and wins to chat them through in a safe, friendly space.

Without the support of an HR department and formal regulation protecting against discrimination for freelance and self-employed people, it can sometimes feel like you can’t be yourself in a professional context. There are often perceptions surrounding ‘coming out’ to customers, suppliers or even work colleagues - even in a liberal city such as Brighton.

On the other end of the scale there are those who are thriving and putting their sexuality at the heart of their businesses, and we would love to hear from you all so there's a lot to discuss!

Our aim? To create a safe and welcoming space for LGBTQ people who have an identity that they might not feel confident communicating to others in a business context so we can together work on strategies and support each other.

Share

To share the challenges and successes individuals have experienced in being open about their identity in a professional context.

Support

Provide a supportive space where people can share their stories of success or stress, and work on methods of dealing with clients and managing expectations.

Succeed

Create an environment where everyone can be truly comfortable with sharing their LGBTQ identities with others in their workplaces and can actively encourage others to do the same.

Format:

Friendly meet up with a short intro and then informal discussions.Hosted by Simon Batchelar and Adam Bastock, small business owners who have LGBTQ identities and believe that they should be able to be open and comfortable in their self-created workplace - no matter their sexual preference or gender orientation.

Understand SEO and Digital Marketing in a friendly environment. Have the knowledge to challenge agencies, hire the right people and win more customers.

Having worked in small businesses for over 8 years, I understand the time challenges you're up against. There's always been a fear around SEO that comes from misunderstanding. I remove that fear so that companies can understand the real opportunities that lie ahead for them.

Frustrated with online resources being focused on big companies with heaps of cash, I'm dedicated to helping smaller companies and individuals use SEO to their advantage and grow.

All of my talks, workshops and events are friendly, approachable and jargon free. We build the basic blocks using simple examples and terminology, before then applying these in real world examples and cases.

SEO is not, and should not be scary!
