Event description

Description

We would be delighted if you were able to attend our stakeholder forum which will examine the growing problem of fuel poverty in the Private Rented Sector (PRS) and what needs to be done to tackle it?

1 in 4 low-income households who rent from a private landlord are unable to afford their energy bills or struggle to keep their homes warm. With more than 25,000 avoidable deaths a year caused by fuel poverty and an NHS bill of nearly £2billion, cold and damp homes are having a disastrous affect on the UK. This is an acute problem for the half a million householders living in rental accommodation rated as F or G standard, with 115,000 of these households already in fuel poverty. These properties are on average nearly £1,000 more expensive to power and heat a year which means that landlords are literally leaving their renters out in the cold.

The Government's 2015 Fuel Poverty Strategy recognised the problem and promised to upgrade all F and G rated homes by 2020. Sadly, in the last 12 months only a few thousand homes have been upgraded by landlords Our Stakeholder Forum is part of our campaign to ensure that Government do the right thing by the fuel poor living in the PRS and take action to meet their 2020 target. The scrapping of the Government's green deal scheme together with cuts, since 2012, to government grants to less well-off households, means that 100,000 low-income renters are now reliant on the Government standing by its 2020 commitment.

As someone who has a keen interest in fuel poverty issues I know that you will not want to miss the opportunity to contribute to the debate and be part of our campaign to hold the Government to account. We have fantastic speakers lined up and I know that you will want to attend. Please book your place via the link on this page.
