The PSA South West is delighted to welcome Celia Delaney with The Funny Thing About Speaking

Celia is going to take you through lessons learned from her twenty years in entertainment and how you can use them to create a more humorous talk.

There won’t be hand-outs, so bring something with you for taking notes, as we’re sure you’ll want to! Celia will also be asking for a couple of volunteers who want to try out a bit of humour on the audience, so if you want to be a volunteer, please just bring a piece of humour or a sentence about yourself you’d like to try out on the group.

By listening to our speaker you will:

  • Think about how you want to portray your persona on stage
  • Understand the difference between observation and observational humour
  • Learn how to structure a joke
  • And… Practise delivering some humour (if you want to!)

Celia Delaney is known for her irreverent style as a comedian and MC in the PSA. Originally trained as an actress in musical theatre, she later became a wedding singer, and then trained in cabaret and comedy and now stages her own shows and gets booked to work as a speaker and after-dinner entertainer.

We are also welcoming Charlie Lawson:

Let me tell you a story…

Networking is vital for all business owners, speakers included, but the brief time you have networking with a new contact makes it difficult to get your message across effectively.
Building a clear networking message is vital. People need to not only listen to it, but also take it in, and most importantly, act upon it. This talk will help you build your networking message, and will reveal the two crucial elements that need to be included.
Incidentally, 99% of all networking conversations you’ll hear / take part in don’t include these…

In this talk you will learn:

• to become more engaging in networking conversations, so the people you talk to will remember you
• how to get to your target market quickly
• the best way to get referrals to your dream clients

Charlie Lawson is the National Director of BNI in the UK. Despite running a networking organisation, Charlie is a very Unnatural Networker.

Most experts talk about networking as though it is the easiest thing in the world to go up to people and talk to them. Charlie helps other Unnatural Networkers gain confidence to network by putting it across from the point of view of someone who’d rather not be doing it at all.

His talks and his book, The Unnatural Networker, have helped thousands of business owners to generate more business from networking.
