Event Details

Speaker Development Day, Improv, plus Entertainment and humour

With our regular focus on Speak More and Speak Better, we have three streams to this month’s meeting

1 - Speaker Development and Business Mastermind Workshop

2 - How to Use Improv techniques in your speeches

3 - How to add humour to make your talks entertaining

Plan to start the new year with a bang?

Join us for our informal Mastermind group session, facilitated by Regional President Steve Catchick, where we help each other to develop our plans to get more of the Right Paid Speaking (or Training) opportunities.

Come to the meeting with your most pressing issue, and let the group help you to create a plan AND hold you accountable to carry out the agreed actions.

Bring your Business Cards too. We will staple them to A4 Sheets and leave them on the table for each of us to give feedback on them.

This will be followed by a Networking Supper Break

(If you have any specific dietary requirements please let us know by emailing

PLEASE NOTE: Special Dietary needs must be received BY Tues 19th DEC 2017; to be guaranteed).

This is the perfect opportunity to meet and mingle with other members and guests. The PSA is a very supportive and collaborative association. Thames Valley prides itself on providing a warm and friendly environment so make sure you meet as many people as possible and ask all the questions you want.

After the break our First Speaker - Jacqui Hogan

Fast and Fun impromptu speaking with Improvisation

Improv (improvisation) is the art of speaking without having to think too much or prepare in advance. Great for when you have speak outside of your prepared speaking plan.

This is a fast paced (mostly!), interactive workshop where everyone will get to practice some basic Improv techniques. This will take you out of your comfort zone, teach you to speak without any preparation (and make stuff up) and essentially have a fun time with it!

This is similar to the iconic ‘who’s line is it anyway’ TV show.

This will help you:

  • Handle the unexpected when you speak
  • Tackle hecklers better
  • Prepare for Christmas by being a bit silly

Finally, our Closing Speaker - Celia Delaney

The funny thing about speaking! How to add humour to your talk.

In this session, Celia is going to take you through lessons learned from her twenty years in entertainment and how you can use them to create a more humorous talk.

Celia will also be asking for a couple of volunteers who want to try out a bit of humour on the audience, so if you want to be a volunteer, please just bring a piece of humour or a sentence about yourself you’d like to try out on the group.

By listening to our speaker you will:

  • Think about how you want to portray your persona on stage
  • Understand the difference between observation and observational humour
  • Learn how to structure a joke
  • Practice delivering humour (if you want to!)
