Event Details

9.00 am onwards is the usual networking and picking of brains with like-minded people over a friendly and heart warming beverage. The meeting will start 9.30 am prompt.

This month we have a double whammy. Not only do we have two great speakers helping you to speak more and speak better it’s also the PSA Yorkshire heat of Speaker Factor. An exciting meeting is promised for both the entrants and audience.

But first the speakers, we have…

Grow Your Business By Making It Personal

As speakers, most of us would probably like more business and build better relationships with our clients, but the big question is how.

As a communications trainer, TV presenter and interviewer Alastair has learned how major organisations have developed sophisticated algorithms to make our interactions with them more personalized. It’s changing our expectations and the way we think about them.

How can we learn from this and make ourselves more memorable, so we can get more bookings?  In this keynote Alastair will show us that by making our businesses more personal, it is possible.

In this talk packed with valuable and practical tips you’ll learn:

* How to make your interactions with new and existing clients more personal.

* How the quality of our communication makes as much difference as the quantity.

* How small gestures can make a huge impact.

Alastair is a communications expert with over 25 years’ experience presenting on television, video, radio and stage. He is an experienced interviewer and reporter specializing in travel and business.

He also spent 16 years leading a team of over a hundred entertainment professionals on cruise liners, including QE2 and Queen Mary 2, while being the face and voice of numerous training videos and writing the company blog.

As well as his TV presenting Alastair also delivers a range of keynote speeches on communication, and with his company Present Yourself Ltd, he helps individuals and organizations communicate more effectively, by leading insightful, interactive and inspiring workshops in Presentation Skills and Media skills.

Next up, our very own…

How to be a winning speaker

As professional speakers we all want to deliver those speeches that will empower and motivate our audiences. Short speeches are no different, except there is no margin for error. There are endless tips and techniques that will improve a speech, but Leon will talk about the mindset and the toolbox that led to his 2018 Speaker Factor win.

You’ll learn:

* How to write a speech that moves your audience

* How to avoid sabotaging yourself

* How to adapt to your audience

Leon is living proof of the power a professional speaker can have. In January 2017 he was bored at work and signed up to a training day on presentation skills, despite knowing (he thought) all there was to know about presenting. Leon quickly found out he knew nothing, as he learnt from a real professional, then PSA president, Lee Jackson.

Leon started attending the PSA and was blown away by what he was learning. He focused on winning Speaker Factor as a step to becoming a professional speaker. He won in 2018! Leon’s success story is a story of the power of the PSA.

And for the cherry on top of the cake, it’s the PSA Yorkshire heat of Speaker Factor which is exciting for both the entrants and audience.

The contest is only open to those who have been a fully paid-up Associate Member for at least three months and attended at least two regional PSA events.

Why not enter? You can put your name forward here!

All you have to do is email our president Craig Collinson at and he'll email you the entry and judging criteria.

At the very least come along and support the contestants.

There’s so much to learn when watching there’s even more to learn about speaking and running a speaking business when participating.

Speaker Factor is all about discovering, encouraging and nurturing emerging speakers in the PSA and speaker community. It’s an opportunity for newer speakers to raise their visibility within the Association a platform to show other members what they can do.

The prize for winning a Regional Heat is a place in the National SemiFinals.

Entrants in the National Semi-Finals will each receive a certificate indicating their participation.

The winner of the Speaker Factor contest will receive a framed certificate indicating they are that year’s winner.

In addition, they will receive publicity for their win via the PSA website and email system.

They may also indicate they are the ‘PSA Speaker Factor Emerging Speaker of the Year’ in their own promotional materials.

The winner also gets a guaranteed speaking slot on the main stage at the following year’s Convention.

The winner also receives a free place at a PSA Bootcamp.

This is going to be an absolutely awesome meeting! Please bring guests, our speakers deserve a great and appreciative audience.

Book now!
