Event description

Description

Enjoy a unique and immersive communal event, both relaxing and profound. Edward will guide a body-scan mediation before Julia plays her gongs and we finish with a period of rest/contemplation.

The term ‘psychedelic’ means psyche revealing. As well as awareness raising, harm-reduction and mental health campaigning, The Psychedelic Society, at both national and local levels, support a range of practices that can be interpreted as ‘psyche revealing’, including meditation, breathwork, sound healing, dance, yoga, time spent in nature and nondual contemplation. We aim to offer many of these activities through our local events programme in the near future.

Participants are literally bathed in waves of sound, helping many people switch off the incessant chatter of the ‘monkey mind’ and find inner stillness. The immersion in sound during a gong bath can help shift participants’ brainwaves away from the Beta mode of our normal waking state to either the Alpha state, where the brain is relaxed and receptive, as when we are daydreaming and visualising. Some people may experience a shift to Theta brainwaves, associated with deep meditation, dreaming, visions and possible moments of insight. Others may experience Delta brainwaves associated with deep sleep and the benefits of profound rest.

The combination of meditation and sound healing can have a range of effects including deep relaxation, clarity of mind, inner contemplation, symptom relief and emotional healing.

Both the meditation and gong bath are experienced while laying on the floor so bring something comfortable (e.g. yoga mat, quilt, pillow) to rest upon and keep you warm.

Mobile phones/tablets need to be switched off.

Please refrain from using any substances, including alcohol, whilst attending this and future gong baths.

Strictly no late admission.

For most people there are no contraindications that would prevent you from benefitting from a meditation and gong bath evening. However, if you do suffer from tinnitus or any form of sound related epilepsy, migraines, bipolar, ASD, are pregnant, or have been undergoing treatment / receiving medication for any form of psychological disorder within the last 6 months, then please contact us before purchasing your ticket.

The gong bath will finish at about 8.30 but there will be no rush to leave, we have the building available for an extra hour. Julia and Edward will be around to talk to anybody who needs to talk about their experience and you are welcome to stay and quietly talk to others whilst we pack up.

It is a good idea to drink plenty of water and continue to rest when you get home.
