Join us for the official launch of Psychoanalysing Horror Cinema, the debut book by lecturer and podcaster Mary Wild. Inspired by her Wild About Horror segments on The Evolution of Horror podcast, the book investigates 50 films across six core subgenres—Mind, Body, Nature, Aliens, Vampires, and Home Invasion—through close readings of essential titles including Mulholland Drive, Black Swan, Jaws, Predator, Twilight, and Misery. Guided by Freudian, Lacanian, and Jungian theory, Mary treats cinema as a projective test to uncover meaningful subjective associations. At this special event, Mary will discuss the creative process behind the book, read select excerpts, and reflect on personal motivations that shaped her writing. Throughout the evening, she’ll be joined by three special guests:

  • Mike Muncer – host of The Evolution of Horror podcast and author of the book’s foreword
  • Susana Vilchez – visual artist and painter of the book’s arresting cover
  • Emily Bennett – award-winning film director and writer

This interactive session offers behind-the-scenes insight into the making of Psychoanalysing Horror Cinema, and celebrates the horror film as a sacred site of introspection, catharsis, and erotic awakening. A Q&A will follow the main presentation.
