About this event

Recently, world events have escalated and exacerbated social depression with evidence of frightening fascism in the USA and elsewhere. This has been characterised by reduced capacity for nuanced dialogue and increasing and extreme hostility, hatred and antagonism in the world.

In July GRA will present a seminar by Allan Shafer in which he examines the question, “Can psychoanalytically-informed thinking make a contribution to repairing ‘cultural, spiritual and psychological desolation?”

“I have observed in myself, in many of my colleagues, my patients and in the world outside increasing feelings of sadness, despair, anxiety, confusion, helplessness and hopelessness at the state of the world and of our leaders."

“I am particularly interested in – and concerned about - the divisive and paranoiagenic function of hate in the global upsurge of violence that lies in one form or another, beneath anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, climate damage, racism, domestic violence, child exploitation, homophobia, transphobia, religious fundamentalism etc. and also the rise of fascism which is characterised by hate.” - Allan Shafer

This online seminar will be live on Zoom Thursday 17th July, 2025 at 7:30pm - 9:00pm
