Meyler Campbell Faculty Member Jon Stokes, a world expert in psychodynamically-based coaching, will present his workshop on what Freud and Psychoanalysis has to offer on leadership and coaching, from scratch right up to the 21st century. Jon is deeply imbued in this, and cares deeply about it – but he does the hard work offline, thinking it all through with great depth and rigour so as to serve it up to us succinctly, completely grounded in the real world of the C-suite, and enlivened with his own disarming sense of humour.

Intellectually stimulating and full of practical applications, this workshop looks at the first great modern psychology framework, based on Freud’s discovery of the dynamic unconscious and his creation of the “talking cure”. Out of fashion for decades, this topic is now newly relevant for leadership in the VUCA world (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous). The webinar will cover developments in psychoanalysis after Freud and the insights they provide into the helping relationship.

Topics that will be covered include what is psychoanalysis? What exactly is the Unconscious? What are defence mechanisms? What is transference? How do early experiences shape us? Are organisations and leaders affected by unconscious processes? How can coaches use these ideas in practice?

Jon Stokes is a world expert in psychodynamically-based coaching and brings more than twenty years’ experience of coaching and consulting at CEO / Main Board level across Europe. He is a Director of the leadership and management development firm Stokes & Jolly (www.stokesjolly.com), Founder of the Consulting Service at the famous Tavistock Clinic, where he is a clinical psychologist, and a Senior Fellow in Management Practice at Oxford University Said Business School.
