‘The Inflamed Mind: A Radical New Approach to Depression’ with Professor Edward Bullmore
Professor Bullmore is a world expert in neuroscience and mental health. He has been Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Cambridge since 1999, and in 2005, he also became Vice-President of Experimental Medicine at GlaxoSmithKline while maintaining his post at University of Cambridge. Professor Bullmore's recently published book, "The Inflamed Mind", will form the basis of his talk, discussing the new science on the link between depression and inflammation of the body and brain.
‘Gene-Environment interactions: How Genes & The Environment Shape Our Mental Health’ with Professor Peter Jones
Peter Jones is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Cambridge and Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust. Professor Peter Jones leads the Cambridge “EpiCentre” group which works at the interface of neuroscience, population-based research, and clinical psychiatry to delineate epidemiological, genetic, neurobiological and psychological factors that influence the cause and outcome of mental illnesses. Professor Jones’ talk will outline and summarise key some of the key concepts and principles of gene-environment interactions within psychiatry, demonstrating how neurobiological and social factors can interact to cause psychiatric disorders.
‘An Autoimmune Cause of Psychosis’ with Dr Gayathri Venkatesan
Dr. Venkatesan is a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist at Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust. With a keen interest in behavioural changes that follow brain injury, Dr. Venkatesan is excited to present some clinical cases of auto-immune encephalitis.
