Event description

Description

A Psychoanalytic Approach to Core Assessment Practice

Assessing is often the most challenging and demanding aspect of therapeutic work.

We're offering a series of three CPD clinical-training seminars and workshops in Clinical Assessment to private-practice psychotherapists, counsellors and psychologists registered with the BACP, UKCP, BPS or BPC.

Why Attend this Workshop?

While assessing, a therapist needs to be able to evaluate states of mind while simultaneously being aware of a patient’s availability and capacity for therapeutic dialogue.

Through carefully evaluating a potential patient’s ways of relating consciously and unconsciously, a therapist attempts to gather a case history, get a sense of presenting issues and establishing a link between what the potential patient is seeking and their availability to developing a therapeutic alliance. The therapist is also attempting to evaluate the patient’s potential to tolerate psychological change, which involves attempting to make contact with troubled and complex parts of the person.

CPD certification will be provided upon successful completion of each seminar.

Workshop Structure:

* First Workshop (Saturday Oct 6th, 2018): Assessing the availability to develop a therapeutic relationship.
* Second Workshop (Saturday Nov 3rd, 2018): Assessing capacity for thinking about attachment, separation and dependency.
* Third Workshop (Saturday Dec 1st, 2018): Assessing projective states in initial meetings (such as projective identification and unconscious identification relating to early states of mind).
