A course introducing the topic of mental health and well-being for refugee Adults from a non-clinical perspective.

About this Event

Course overview

This course is an introduction to the refugee experience, and how this can impact on mental health. It supports non-clinical professional working with these clients to understand the early warning signs of poor mental health, looks at appropriate referrals, and provides practical tools for supporting positive mental health in clients.

Course suitability Anyone who works with separated adult refugees and families, without a specific mental health responsibility, e.g. ESOL teachers, caseworkers, legal advisors voluntary and community organisation staff and volunteers.

• Three principles of Therapeutic Care Model

• Cultural competency versus cultural humility

• Creative approaches to working with different groups

• The value of psychoeducation and group work

• Working with Interpreters

• Vicarious trauma and preventing burnout

Course format

Participants won't need a Zoom account to join the training. An email containing the link to join our online event page will be sent prior to the training, and you can join from your web browser.

Special rate tickets for members of Refugee Community Organisations (RCOs) are available. Please contact the Refugee Council at training@refugeecouncil.org.uk to enquire RCO about eligibility.

Please be Advised

- To qualify for certification you should have your camera on and/or participate fully in the training

- If you arrive more than half an hour late you may be refused admission

- If you need to leave the training for a work emergency, you may not be re-admitted

- If you are having technical difficulty joining the training please contact us on 07909 251 641 or training@refugeecouncil.org.uk within the first 10 minutes of the training so that we can support you joining the session

You will not be eligible for a refund for any of the above scenarios or personal illness on the day.
