Public Event: Help shape a fairer future for local tax
Event Information
Description
Would it matter to you if your council tax bill went up or down?
The way we fund local services is going to change. Edinburgh Central MSP Marco Biagi is inviting the public to help shape the future of local tax at an upcoming public event.
A cross-party commission, co-chaired by Mr Biagi, is currently considering potential replacements to the Council Tax.
City residents will have the opportunity to make their views known at Augustine United Church on George IV Bridge on 9th September from 7.00pm.
The event will require no prior or expert knowledge and is aimed at giving everyone a chance to contribute based on their own experience as Council Tax payers and city residents.
The question of who pays tax and how much is one of the biggest tests of the fairness of a society. But we also all use the local services - like Edinburgh's schools, roads, parks, bins, and social care - which depend on local tax for their funding.
This is a chance for Edinburgh residents to take part in what could well turn into Scotland's biggest tax reform in thirty years. The results will affect all of us.
