Description

Free and Open to the Public

Sponsored by Graduate Student Association (GSA) of the University of York, we are delighted to present this award-winning documentary.

About the film

Director Jiu-liang Wang’s follow-up to debut documentary Beijing Beseiged By Waste (2011), Plastic China captures a plaintive sense of the human casualties from unfettered global consumerism. His gently observed portrait of the families toiling at a plastic recycling factory in Shandong builds into a damning commentary on a modern China marked by extreme divides in wealth and opportunity. This poetic doc exposes the lives of those on the fringes of global capitalist realities, a far cry from the communist dream. It poses thought-provoking questions that reach beyond its national boundary.

The event also is featured with an opening talk given by our local poet pauline with her lovely poem. The film director Mr. Wang Jiuliang is giving an online Q/A after the screening.
