Event description

Description

The talk by Dr Akeem Sule and Dr Becky Inkster will analyse a number of rap lyrics by Rap artists and enable the audience to appreciate the causes and contributory factors to the mental health problems of the characters depicted in the Rap lyrics. The talk also explores some drugs of addiction and their different effects on individuals in these lyrics as well. The talk will explain the published research carried out by HIP HOP PSYCH which explored the frequency of word usage of drug terminology spanning three decades of the genre and explain why different drug lyrical trends have emerged, risen or fallen out of popularity.

The talk will highlight how this important work can open up the conversation on the effects of drugs on the mind and behaviours in the context of mental health problems.
